Well, we had a blast playing around. Had ice cream too, i feel like a kid all over again. Haha. WE actually played Police & Thief, how puerile is that. It was a lot of fun though!

Iit's the year of the tiger (i think). But irregardless of what animal it is, we will put our hope in God and not the animals of the calendar .

In true Malaysian custom, we're celebrating CNY with food!

Uncle Tak Ming is inviting us for a get-together this Chinese New Year. "Invite your friends and be punctual to get ang pao! At least that's what he said - "Free ang pao packets for the early birds."

We'll be be playing Games on Saturday at Central Park Bandar Utama this Saturday 4-6pm.

It's basically a gathering just to exercise and have fellowship at the same time. Depending on how creative we are, we'll play more than one game.

Hi everyone! How's life after camp?

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Yeapppp, Christmas!

What are you all doing this Sunday, on the 20th December? Do you have anything on?

If you do, you might want to cancel them. :D

We are going to have a post camp/Christmas party this Sunday, 20th December 2009 at One Club, Bukit Utama!

The name of the restaurant is Super Tanker!

The time is from 7pm to 10pm, and the dress code is preferably formal. It is a dinner at a nice restaurant after all.

And we can all practice the etiquette stuff we learned in camp haha :D

The fee is RM48.

BUT HERE'S THE CATCH

If you were a G.I. Joe Camper, you'd get to go in for free!

You can bring your friends who did not come for the camp, but they would have to pay for themselves.

Also, you can bring your parents too, if you want! I heard the food there is lovely.

Let Eric or Alwin know, if you are attending, so tickets can be purchased for you.

Today is the 23rd of Nov 2009. GIJOE camp is just exactly 8 days and 3 hours away!!! Are You all Excited for camp? I know I am. haha. What to Bring List!

One week to camp! *looks at countdown clock on the right*

I'm looking for my cold weather wear already and that includes my beanie :] (I like headgears by the way - hats, hairbands, clips whatever)
So, as promised, I'm here to brief all of you on the things to bring for camp.

Since this is a Christian Camp, obviously you'll need to bring your bible. Bring along also a pen/pencil so you can take notes. If you want, you can bring your whole pencil case.

Also you will want to bring clothes for your 4-day stay in Camerons! This includes your pants, t-shirts, skirt, sports wear, socks, whatever. Since it is cold up there, don't forget to bring warm clothing like jackets or scarves.

Or you could just bring a beanie like me :)

Oh, don't forget your underpants too.

Since we'll also be doing some running, bring along your sports shoes.What's an army-ish camp without some running right?

Next, you need to bring your own toiletries like your toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, towel and deodorant - if you're the smelly kind.

Here's a tip: You can lighten your load by sharing toiletries with your friends. Of course, you'll have to discuss with your friend first.

Other important things you need to bring:
Water. It is cold up there, and we don't want you to get dehydrated. So, bring a bottle (you can refill water up there) and make sure you drink lots and lots of water!

Pocket money. Food will be provided, but there will be a day where we'll allow you to roam freely in the Cameron's town. You can buy your mother/father/brother/sister/friend/boyfriend/girlfriend some souvenirs or eat some awesome pancakes if you want.

OH! One more important thing you must remember to bring!

I'm not much of a writer plus i don't really have much time to craft out a work of art.

This was one of the games we played. Some team building activity concocted by our youth teacher/adviser. Was pretty cool, i remember i learned something....even though i can't remember what it was, HAHA.

So, hope to see you at this party. Come get to know us and vice versa. But don't get too excited over camp though, there's a leaning tendency to wild hysteria as camp approaches ....just look at picture below.

Caveat: Don't get too excited. Keep your shirt on. Don't be like Darrell. HAHAHHA

There will be a short briefing on special night as well, one of the night activities for camp. Something lah, i also dunno what it is. It's like some top secret thing. The committee has been very secretive about it, and very protective. Charissa practically threatened to boot me out of camp if i bug her some more about it. So you HAVE to go to this party to find out.

The Fun Things We Do

So, since we're still trying to convince you guys to come for camp, here are just some sneak peeks of the fun we had up on that cold mountain.

We've had the moderate chubby bunny games (stuffing marshmallows into your mouth)...

To your night activities involving water balloons (bear in mind that the weather is COLD up there and cold water won't exactly keep you warm)...

Of course, we also have the slightly rougher games like card rugby, involving getting yourself dirrrrrtayyy.

Girls, the mud isn't as gross as it looks. Getting dirty once in a while can be reaaaaallllly fun! Look at the happy faces :D Even the dog wants to join in our mud frolicking!

We've also had funny acting on our special event night. This is an event where we all had to dress up as sports people.

This guy was supposedly a Muay Thai boxer... but in this role, he was acting as a gay cowboy XD

Of course, if you're still not completely convinced.................... they even have this up there in Camerons:

PANCAKES!

Strawberry, banana, drizzled with honey on a thin piece of flour-y goodness.

It is yummy!

Up in Camerons, we also have nice tea and scones.

Buttery and crumbly, the scones are served with cream, butter and jam. Spread it on and stuff them in your mouth.

You'll want more than one, I promise you.

This blog has been quiet for waaaaaaaaay too long, so, I'm here to give you some camp updates, as well as some activities we are organizing!

So what's up with the waterfall picture?

Well, the Agape Young People will be headed that way this Saturday!

Yup, it's 7th November, this week. We'll be packing ourselves into cars (or a bus) and have a time of freshwater fun at Kanching Falls!

We'll be having a few games, and yummy food, and of course, free and easy time for some splashin' goodness :D

We're meeting at Agape Chapel at 10am this Sat, and the fee is only RM10!

What makes us fools at the end?

Have you ever fought with your best friend? Had an argument and felt like you never ever wanted to talk to her (or him) again? How did you feel after the argument? Exhausted? Remorseful? Furious? And after a few days, how did you feel? Did you still feel angry, or do you really miss your best friend and would wish that both of you did not have that silly fight?

As bad as you felt, and as much as you miss her, you can't bring yourself to make up with her. And it is especially hard if you were the blamed party in that argument.

Pride. We all have that, don't we?

As much as we love our best friend, and miss the times we have with her, we find it hard to swallow our pride and make the first move to salvage the friendship.

BUT. What happens when you do? The feeling you get is indescribable. When you both make up, and everything is okay again, and you can both laugh at the silliness of that argument; feels great, doesn't it? And you will realize, what's pride, when you can have your best friend back? Nothing else seems to matter anymore.

And that's how I felt today. =)

For a long time, I have been angry at God, blaming Him for certain things that are happening in my life. I refused to do my quiet time, decided not to thank Him for the food I have, shut out sermons in church (sometimes deciding not to go to church altogether), and when people encouraged me, I pushed their encouragement aside and let my cynicism take me over, saying words so bitter, it shocked even my closest friends.

I was on YouTube the whole day today, just searching for songs and listening to them (especially American Idol ones, since it's now the final 2). It is interesting to note, God's way of getting through to me; with so much "noise" of this generation, shouting probably isn't going to be good enough, and so this is how the brilliant God does it.

Bear in mind this is the shortest possible way I could summarize the tens of thousands of videos I watched today (I AM exaggerating, of course). So, American Idol songs led to Simon Cowell's comments, which led to Britain's Got Talent, which led to Connie Talbot, which led to Whitney Houston's "I will always love you", which led to Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey's "When you believe", which led to Prince of Egypt clips... and whooop. Let me stop here.

So, after watching countless videos from Prince of Egypt and reading so many God-praising comments (yes, there are many of them), I decided, ah why not just search for a Christian song and see what comments I can read.

I typed in sonic flood in the search field, and the first video that popped up in the search results was the song "Open the eyes of my heart". I clicked on that, when the song started playing, I broke down.

Each word of the song hit me like a brick.

Open the eyes of my heart Lord,
Won't you open the eyes of my heart,
I want to see you,
I want to see you.

And it was then, the walls of pride in my heart were broken. Just like that.

I clicked open the devotion folder in my email - which has collected more than 100 unread devotions - and read the passage. And I prayed, meditated, and just sat in silence, talking to God, and salvaging our "friendship".

And guess what? When I was done, it was the exact same feeling I got when I made up with my best friend (if not better). I felt revived and refreshed. My pride seemed so foolish now, and was I glad I swallowed it and chose to search for Sonic Flood.

Brings us back to the title of this entry: What makes us fools at the end? When we choose to ignore God and think we can make it on our own? When we torment ourselves by not talking to our best friend, Jesus Christ?

Yup, that's right. One word. Pride. :)

Emulation

I've been having my alone time a lot recently. Most of the times, when my roommate is not around and I have the room to myself.

While having my alone time, I ponder and reflect about many things in life. Occasionally, I flip the bible and read my devotion, trying to understand what God is trying to tell me.

Today, I tried to read a book I bought yesterday. I couldn't pay attention to the words. I found myself reading the same paragraph again and again. It wasn't because the book was boring or the writer sucked though, there were just too many things in my head. Frustrated, I put the book aside, and just laid there on my bed, letting my thoughts run wild.

As I laid in bed, I thought about this massive crossroad I am at in my life right now. I am about to make a decision so big, that could make or break my future. And with this current economic situation, it would be simply foolish to just plunge into a decision, just to get it out of my head. As much as I want to ask my parents to just decide for me (because it's the easy way out), and I know they would if I asked them to, I just figured that major decisions await me out there in the future, and I figured it would be too ridiculous to ask Mommy and Daddy to make decisions for me then, wouldn't it? So, I should probably start cultivating my decision-making skills now.

I allowed my thoughts to take a stroll in the wild side, and it came to this: What Would Jesus Do?

A pretty cliched line. But Cliches won't be called cliches if they didn't work, right?

That didn't help me solve my major decision, but another thought came to my head instead. In the entire lifetime that I am in, whose behavior do I emulate?

Something I learned in one of the subjects I took is that people emulate the behavior of the people they hang out with. To a certain extent, I find the truth in that sentence. We behave what we think the society around us would accept, and in our small, constricted, tunnel vision, the society around us are usually people who matter the most to us: Friends and Family. How else would we behave if we want acceptance from them, but to behave like them.

I've always had a role model. They aren't always the best, but role models nonetheless; and I emulate their behavior. But the question I ask myself is, should I take after the characteristics of men (or women)?

Well, the answer to that question is obvious. Many verses in the bible tell us to be Christ-like. But how often do we really take Christ as our role model?

Somehow, while writing all these, I lost my train of thought. So before I write something totally out of the context and something that might get me stoned, I will end with a few questions for everyone:

Who is your role model in life? Why do you choose him/her and what characteristics of that person do you see yourself emulating? When is the last time you emulated Christ-likeness in your everyday life?

Based on my previous posts, looks like brevity is not my forte. :/

Fire Flies Sighting in Kuala Selangor

The Agape Young People is organizing a trip to Kuala Selangor. First, they are going to go to this Fort to see "golden tail" monkeys and catch the breath-taking sunset. After that, they will have a sumptuous seafood meal for dinner followed by the visit to the Kelip-kelip (fireflies) river. Come and join us! All church members are welcomed.

Fresh Start

Chinese New Year is today! *lights red fire crackers*

One thing about new years (since I'm about a month too late for the 2009 New Year's Day), is that it signifies a new beginning. A fresh start. A time when we can leave behind the unhappy and start the happy. Building new memories. Bridging broken relationships. Letting go of something.

It's been three years since I've joined Agape (and AYP, of course) and I feel that I have grown much, mentally and spiritually. I have grown to be a more mature person as a whole, and a more mature Christian. Many times, I may have stumbled, but there are people around me who never failed to help me get back on track, and I thank God for those people.

Three years. Feels like forever, doesn't it? After going through disappointments after disappointments, I've come to realize the fact that the only person that is never going to disappoint you is God. A little slow in the realization part, I know, but time is what it takes to learn about something so it hits home right? It's just comforting to know that no matter how men (and women) may disappoint me or let me down, God is still always there with is unfailing love, ready to accept and cleanse me all over again. I sometimes blame myself for always letting God down, not doing what he says, letting so many other things consume and overwhelm me, that I forget to sit at His feet and just, literally, bask in His awesomeness.

God shows his love for me in many ways. One of which is through church members who never cease to guide me in making choices in life, and of course showering their never ending love and kindness toward a (not so) country bumpkin like me, making me feel so at home. I sometimes do wonder, where do all these overflowing love and kindness in them come from? And then it dawned upon me, making me spew words like "Why didn't I think of that?" out loud. This love and kindness come from God. And it is because they have experienced God's love and kindness, that they want express that same love and kindness to someone else, so that other person can experience the same thing, and the cycle goes on.

D'oh!

Being in Agape has taught me how to show love, kindness and compassion toward everyone I come across, in college, in the bus, in church, my family, and the list goes on. The warmth I felt from everyone in church truly makes me feel like part of the Agape family. If the family warmth is what the church is trying to emulate, then it has succeeded in monumental proportions. But the church is more than that. It loves, but it also disciplines. And that is what I love about it.

Warmth, kindness, compassion, obedience toward God, patience in handling us (the few young, vibrant life enthusiasts), joy in teaching and educating us, goodness of the heart, faithfulness to God our Father, gentleness in rebuking, and ultimately, love for each and every one of us. These sweet fruits of the spirit are what makes this church unique. They are, I feel, what defines the Agape church. This identity, is what truly makes the Agape church, family.

So, in this Chinese New Year, I would like to thank the Awesome God above for bestowing upon me a second family, a home away from home, and love from above through them. Let's not, in this CNY, forget our God, who is the fundamental reason why we all can have a second family.

Looks like I got carried away with my writing, but oh well.
